ANNOUNCING! Pelham Together Counseling
Pelham families are well aware of how difficult it can be to find available, affordable counseling. Add to that the great need for mental health support for our young people right now, and many find themselves in stressful and difficult circumstances. Pelham Together is facing the situation head on by launching Pelham Together Counseling.
Pelham Together Counseling will provide short-term counseling to Pelham youth, aged 7-21. The program will be overseen by a Program Director who is a licensed, clinical social worker supervising social work graduate students. The team will also work with current PT staff to provide direct-service, mental health programming to the community, including parent discussion groups. The therapy will be offered locally in offices at Huguenot Memorial Church and pricing will be based on a sliding scale, ensuring that services are provided at very low cost. Insurance will not be necessary nor accepted. Our new Program Director is scheduled to begin at the end of January, and we will launch the therapy program soon thereafter.
PT looks forward to being able to respond to the need we see in the community. Anyone will be welcome to reach out to PT Counseling as an opportunity to begin the process of positive intervention. We anticipate receiving referrals from a variety of sources including, the school district and other local organizations who work with youth. Pelham Together will continue to provide assistance to families in finding a longer term placement with a professional, as needed.
“Like everyone, we were frustrated that help for our kids wasn’t more readily available.” says Pelham Together Executive Director, Laura Caruso. “This is a model being used in a nearby community and after discussions with several local partners and a survey of families, we felt it would be a tremendous asset to Pelham.” A generous gift from an anonymous donor provides the much needed funding to get started; going forward, PT will have to find funding to maintain this service in the community.
Pelham Together is a local, non-profit organization that focuses on the physical, social, and mental well-being of all Pelham youth. To date, our work has focused on prevention by establishing connections and opportunities, such as our Summer Internship program and our Pelicones Ice Cream Truck business. This expansion into direct service moves Pelham Together towards our goal of providing a full-service hub of opportunity for all Pelham youth.
