WinterFest - Chilly and Warm at the Same Time
It was a cold but clear night on January 8th, 2022, and Pelham Together’s second annual WinterFest was a great success—thanks entirely to everyone’s participation and willingness to bear the cold in return for the warmth of some togetherness! With a light blanket of snow setting the stage and hot chocolate on hand, Pelham’s amazing talent started at the Gazebo with Bill Hong—Pelham’s very own bagpiper. Crimson Utopia, a teen band, was up next and got the entire audience moving to a fabulous set of hyped-up songs. For the rest of the evening, bands played all over town, magical holiday lights were glowing, and snacks kept people fueled along the way. Thank you to DeCicco’s, Flour Power, the Woodward Family, the baking duo of Caroline Garufi and Ella Miller, and all the home bakers who provided delicious treats to help keep us warm on the inside!
The lights, music and snacks were sprinkled at locations in every corner of town, providing an incredible selection of venues for families and friends to enjoy. At several locations, you could find neighbors of all ages enjoying a chilly night and a hot chocolate together—from the littlest fans, to teen groupies cheering on their friends, to parents and grandparents. From one Pelhamite, ”we loved driving all over town to see the lights and seeing people in front of so many houses; and the musical talent is amazing!” From a family who moved to Pelham in December, “we were thrilled to learn that there was an event like this. We had no idea! It’s such a nice way to get introduced to our new town!” And from a member of one of the teen bands, “WinterFest has given me exposure as I build my musical career,…given me a place to showcase my working talent, and have also provided excellent support as I put myself out there in front of people.” We even heard from visitors to Pelham who were so impressed with the event and thought it was so beautiful to see a town come together in this way. Success all around!
We would like to thank the community and our event sponsors for their support. Jennifer Meyer from Compass sponsored our Gazebo Stage, and the Mellstrom, Bichof, Ritchie team at Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty sponsored several blocks around town. Sponsorships and the community’s purchases of maps and treats helped raise close to $6,000 for Pelham Together programs supporting youth and families, and we are deeply grateful.
WinterFest also marked the beginning of a HOPE campaign launched by Pelham Together’s Mental Health Committee. This event was truly a beacon of hope at at time that has been difficult for many, and we would like to keep that message going through the long, winter months. Lawn signs are up to remind us that we are not alone, and with a QR code to reach our website for specific resources for help. Look out for more reminders around town that we are all in this together, that someone is out there and ready to help, and that no one is or should feel alone.
