The generation of kids and teens growing up today must contend with the constant presence of screens, smartphones, and social media at increasingly younger ages. It is unchartered territory for them–and for their parents. The information below aims to help parents who are struggling to figure out what sorts of limits work best for their families. Resources include articles and research on the effects of screens and technology on young people’s mental health and wellness. There are infographics and summaries from parent discussion groups held locally in Pelham, collecting other parent's’ suggestions and strategies. We highlight recommend a fellow Pelham mom’s newsletter, Thoughts From a Digital Mom, for regular updates and insights on this topic.

On Monday night, October 23, Pelham Together invited Sarah Gallagher Trombley, local parent and digital parenting coach to give her workshop, “Digital GroundRules for 4th and 5th Grades” at DaniLee’s Helping Hands. Trombley delivered her message to a packed room of parents who came to take notes and get their questions answered.

We can’t believe it’s been 5 years since the first film, and there is so much good information packed into this second documentary. While adolescents of all genders are using online and social media platforms daily, with over half saying “constantly” (Pew Research Center, 2023), there are unique social pressures and risks that girls face in their digital lives that can significantly affect their physical and mental health.
