St. Vincent's Excel Program
The Excel day program meets the needs of adolescents who are having a problem with drugs/alcohol to the point that they are unable to manage at home or at school. The program is designed to meet the adolescent’s educational needs as well as to address his or her substance use problems.
In the program, adolescents learn coping skills and preventative activities that help them fill their time and avoid relapse. Psychoeducation groups provide information about how drug/alcohol use can exacerbate mental health symptoms and destructive behavior. Other groups focus on impulse control, anger management and lifestyle changes that support sobriety. Family sessions are an important aspect of the program, and include education on addiction as a family disease and legal aspects of children’s behavior and consequences.
Referrals are accepted from schools, parents, family/juvenile court systems or other community agencies. The EXCEL day program is offered Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information about the program, please call (914) 925-5112.
