The First Day chronicles the recovery journey of Chris Herren, a former professional basketball player, author and wellness advocate. The film reveals Herren’s vulnerability and his profound connections with high school students who, in turn, have shared their stories of struggle and strength. His message that people need to focus on a person’s first day of struggle with substances and mental health, as opposed to their worst day, shifts the conversation for schools and communities across the country.
Following film, join us for a moderated panel discussion with Jonathan Hock, the producer; Dr. Jonathan Avery, Director of Addiction Psychiatry at Weill Cornell and NY Presbyterian; and members of Pelham Schools’ mental health team.
Suggested audience include parents, other adults and community members, high school aged students.
