At Pelham Together, youth civic engagement is at the core of what we do. It gives kids a meaningful connection to their community, builds lifelong leadership skills, and nurtures a habit of shared responsibility and making change.

We know this is important for our youth, and we’re not alone.  That’s why the New York Community Trust recognized Pelham Together with a grant recently that supports and expands these programs.

It’s easy to join the Youth Council or PT Club, and the sooner you start, the more you get out of it!

  • Youth Council (High School) - Join the group chat with the QR code here or email our youth advocate, Olivia Ting  (oting@pelhamtogether.org).

  • PT Club (Middle School) - Talk to our club advisor Mrs. Kitay or email our youth advocate Olivia Ting  (oting@pelhamtogether.org).

Here’s a taste of what goes on in these programs.

Pelham Together Youth Council (High school)

  • Youth members will meet monthly at the new Village of Pelham Municipal Center to plan peer-to-peer engagement through activities and campaigns like Say Hi Day, Tailgate Together, Positive Post-Its, Project Happiness, Town Halls, Pelham Overnight and more.

  • Twice a year the Youth Council leads Town Halls open to the entire community at Daronco Townhouse. Topics reflect a priority among our youth and focus on facilitating community discussion and collective action planning. The planning for their next Town Hall—coming up on October 8th—are already underway.

  • In March, several of the Council members travel to Albany for Mental Health Matters Day, where they meet with our state representatives and advocate for youth-centered policies and initiatives.

  • Throughout the year, Youth Council members visit elementary school classrooms as part of their Kids Helping Kids initiative to discuss topics identified by teachers to be important and timely, including friendship, empathy, and transitions.

PT Club  (Middle School)

Middle School students who are part of the PT Club meet monthly after school to plan their version of peer-to-peer activities and campaigns focused on wellbeing, positivity and kindness in their school community. Activities include Say Hi Day, Positive Post-Its, Holiday Kindness Grams, De-Stress Before the Test Inspirational Notes, Random Acts of Kindness for Teacher Appreciation, and Hug-A-Goat for Mental Health Awareness. This year, there will be additional effort to connect Youth Council youth with PT Club youth as part of the peer-to-peer efforts.

Middle School youth help plan the Pelham Overnight in May, spearheading the Positive Rock Messages reflection station and creating a beautiful rock garden as a result.
