Other: My philosophy is one that considers how your unique personal experience, family history, and constitutional factors inform your reactions, perspectives, decisions, as well as beliefs about yourself, others, the world and the future. I take a strength-based, collaborative approach with the goal of enhancing an individual’s sense of worth, authenticity, and efficacy in order to find balance and meaning in life. I integrate a variety of modalities to conceptualize problems and establish personalized treatment goals. I strive to create a stable, nurturing, empathic environment in which to safely explore difficult feelings and experiences. Together we clear the debris that maintains emotional distress or unhealthy patterns to make room for deep insights, healthier perspectives, and effective coping strategies. In my work with children, I find that parents often try their best to manage for as long and as best as they can before frustration, fear or helplessness takes over. Despite the love and the best of intentions, parents’ perspectives can get blurred or parents can get entrenched in habitual reactions instead of thinking creatively. Child therapy goes hand in hand with parent guidance to assist parents in learning new, more adaptive strategies to help their child to cope emotionally and behaviorally and to find more successful, rewarding ways of relating to one another.
